Computer Literacy

Computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to use computers and technology efficiently. Computer literacy can also refer to the comfort level someone has with using computer programs and other applications that are associated with computers. Another valuable component of computer literacy is knowing how computers work and operate. Having basic computer skills is a significant asset in developed countries. Even if you don't use computers for work, having the ability to use email, the Internet, and some basic programs can help you to communicate with friends and family more easily, as well as participate in many aspects of society that are now online.

There are lots of ways to improve your computer literacy skills, no matter what level you are at now. Some free introductory computer courses are available at the Powell River Public Library (call 604-485-5320 for dates and times), and a variety of courses are offered at Vancouver Island University (call 604-485-2878 for more info).
